Yesterday was R Kay’s birthday and it seemed that rather than him getting surprised he decided to surprise his friends on his birthday by shaving his 14 year old dread locks. R Kay wanted to start a new phase in his life, first without dread locks that he said it had reached that phase where he wanted to make a change.

Some received it well but some were shocked not in a bad way though. From Pete Odera , Amani ,Billy Frank among others commented on the new look of R Kay :

R Kay though thanked GOD for the blessing of life and appreciated how far he has come.

I am grateful for the blessings of God in my life…this far he has brought me. I appreciate my loving wife…what a gift you are to me! My son Prince…you bring joy into my life. A big thank you to everyone who has touched my life in one way or another. I wish you much blessings in return. A new phase of my life begins…I am excited.

Popular music producer R-Kay is a Burundi native who started making music professionally when he moved to Nairobi. The dread locked producer realized his passion for music when he got a job at Next level studios. He gained a lot of experience in production by working with pioneering artists such as the late Poxi Presha, Nairobi City Ensemble, Talma, Jomenes Boys na Band and many more.

In 2001, he started a gospel record label together with his best friend Mbuvi. They mainly signing gospel musicians called ShammahBoyMusic, and produced artists such as Roughtone, Henrie Mutuku, Jogg-c, Kidum and many more.

R Kay wrote music for various groups including the group Shammah who brought to you the hit song “Ukilya Moko” , a song that went on to become the first gospel song to receive massive airplay on secular stations.

Looking at the success that he has gained in Kenya it wouldn’t make sense for R Kay not to have someone supporting his work and praying for him. That’s why he got married to Kenyan singer Taji Kamande and on Thursday he celebrated her after they marked 10 years in marriage.

R Kay being a creative producer he did some thinking on what he should come up with as a present for his wife Taji on their anniversary. Creatively he designed an anniversary card with the beautiful words of “To My Gorgeous wife” printed on the cover of the card.

R Kay is one of the best producer’s in Kenya as one he is talented in his line of duty and two he is a man of GOD. He is a Burundian native, a singer, songwriter, performer, studio engineer, music producer, record label owner and a business man.

R kay back then was known for so many great songs including the one released by his group Shammah [with Mbuvi] titled “Ukilya Moko” that went on to become the first religious song to receive massive airplay on radio stations.

Later on R Kay has been involved in productions for artiste’s such as : Mbuvi [Kwata Kawaya] , Esther Wahome  , Jemimah Thiongo, Rufftone [Tsinyanga Tsiwere], Henri Mutuku , Daddy Owen [Defender] , Ole Willy[Maskio Ya Mungu], Alice Kamande [Upendo Ule Ule],Ambassada [Watoto Inkane] among many others.

He has taught many the way to earn in life including the fast rising producer Tim of Still Alive and super producer J Blessing of Link Video. One thing many would ask is what does R Kay eat or drink for him to still be in the industry for about 17 years. The answer is quite simple :

“The Bible says the man who delights on the word of GOD and meditates upon it daily shall not wither and everything he does shall prosper. This is a case which we can attribute it to R Kay who has played a role of mentor to many gospel artistes and producers  in our ministry.”

For sure R Kay is talented as when you listen to what he has produced you will never leave your sit but listen and listen and listen.
