‘If the Thoughts That Enter Your Mind Don’t Bring Peace … It Ain’t GOD’ : Michelle Williams

CHRISTIAN POST

Williams, 34, appeared on BET’s “Lift Every Voice” recently, where she spoke about her decision to help people get free in their own lives after getting personal on her fourth solo album Journey to Freedom.

“How (much) more transparent can I be with consumers to let them know the process to being free from whatever is keeping you from being your best, whether that’s procrastination, the wrong relationships (or) low self esteem? What can we do to get free from that and really live good healthy lives?” Williams asked host Fonzworth Bentley on “Lift Every Voice.”

“A lot of us aren’t living to our full God given potential. Lets get free from hurt that was probably done to you in the past.”

The singer revealed she has been hurt multiple times in her life, including facing a depression in 2012 that dates back to when she was 15 years old.

“I thought it was growing pains. I thought ‘oh I just like to be by myself,’ but there were things going on around me, disappointments,” Williams recalled on the show. “A lot of things that I saw with my eyes, a lot of things that I heard with my ears really hurt me. I carried that into my adulthood.”

While Williams admitted she did not want to deal with her issues for years, she didn’t realize that also meant she was not healed from certain situations. Years later, she sees the importance of both prayer and seeking professional help if people are having a hard time dealing with depression.

The singer said it’s important to recognize when negative ungodly thoughts enter the mind in order to stop them.

“If the thoughts that enter your mind don’t bring peace, happiness (or) joy, think on those things that are from above. If they’re not (going) to take you above, that’s not of God,” Williams said on the show. “So you need to shake yourself and say ‘boo … get out of your feelings, because it’s you. That ain’t God.'”

Beyonce and Kelly Rowland came out to sing with their multiple, Stellar Award nominee sister Michelle Williams on the song “Say Yes.” The piece, which was up for three awards on Saturday, originally appeared on Williams’ religious album from 2014 “Journey To Freedom.”

The powerful, 7 minute performance marked the first time the three women of Destiny have performed together since their Super Bowl blow-out in February of 2013.

30th Annual Stellar Awards

At the time of the recording, Williams told a reporter that the other members lobbied to be included on the song. “They received an advance copy of the album and called saying ‘We love ‘When Jesus Says Yes’….there has to be a Destiny’s Child mix of the song,” Williams was quoted as saying at the time. “Kelly did it and Beyonce got right in the studio and did her part. I kept it a secret because I didn’t want anyone to know until it was time.”

The trio also filmed a video for “Say Yes.” “I was like we were little kids again,” commented Williams back in 2014, about the clip. “I have their back and they have mine…They have proven they are my sisters.”

The 4:10-minute video, which is a remix on the Nigerian gospel hymn “When Jesus Says Yes,” is off of Williams’ latest album Journey to Freedom.

The up-tempo song blends West African gospel with contemporary dance music and features uplifting and inspiring lyrics about the power of faith.

“I’m not worried ’bout a thing / Cause I know You are guiding me / Where You lead me Lord I will go /
I have no fear cause I know who’s in control,” Williams sings.

“It’s Destiny’s Child time again,” said Beyoncé. “This song is so inspiring and it’s not enough music out there like this and I’m proud to be a part of it.

Michelle Added “We’re still loving each other, supporting each other. They have no idea what it means to me and I think it’s full circle. We’re still rocking it out.”

The Harmony Samuels-produced song will appear on Williams’ third album Journey to Freedom, due September 9.
