Hillsong to Debut New Movie Trailer That Offers ‘New Perspective’ on Christianity

Hillsong United’s Jad Gillies said recently that his band’s forthcoming film offers a ‘new perspective’ on what it means to be a modern-day believer. He also hopes the film can draw more people to the church.

On March 25, an exclusive new trailer of “Hillsong — Let Hope Rise” is set to be released ahead of the film’s premiere and Gillies shared his excitement.

“My hope is that the film gives people new perspective of what it actually looks like to believe in who Jesus is and what it means to live a life that reflects His acceptance and love,” the worship leader said.

The film chronicles the journey of the Australian worship band, which began in 1998 as a pastime for youth at church and has since grown into a global sensation. Gillies hopes the film can spark widespread interest in church service and worship.

“I hope it encourages those who have never been into a church that perhaps church could be a safe place for them, somewhere that they could feel at home, encouraged and inspired to do great things,” he shared.

The Dove Award-winning band is led by Joel Houston, the son of Hillsong founders and pastors Brian and Bobbie Houston. All 11 band members are either volunteers or employees of the church.

The film is produced by Jonathan Bock of Grace Hill Media and Matthew Weaver and Ben Field. Phil Cooke of Cooke Pictures has been named as an executive producer along with Wayne Hughes Jr. and Greg Campbell of Cantinas Entertainment, who’s financing the project.

In Jan., Warner Bros. abruptly pulled the film from its distribution and Relativity Studios, the third-largest mini-major film studio in the world, will now distribute the project.

“We are excited to share ‘Hillsong — Let Hope Rise’ with moviegoers across the United States,” said Matt Alvarez, who’s overseeing the project for Relativity. “Chronicling this Christian band’s humble beginnings to their present day worldwide ministry is truly remarkable and worthy of their story being told on the big screen.”

In 2013, Hillsong United’s third studio album Zion peaked at No. 1 on Christian album charts in Australia, the U.S. and the United Kingdom. Last year, the band scored its first-ever American Music Awards nod in the Contemporary Inspirational Artist category.

Houston, who’s co-pastor of Hillsong NYC, previously told The Christian Post that the band’s goal is never to write “cool” music, but rather to share the story of Jesus.

“I’m not trying to write songs that are cool or hip, or that keep up to date with whatever is out there on the radio,” he said. “We’re genuinely just trying to write songs that are honest reflections of a creative God and music that helps people connect with God.”

Hillsong, which is headquartered in Sydney, has churches around the world with more than 100,000 weekly attendees, including thriving congregations in New York and Los Angeles.

“Hillsong — Let Hope Rise” is set to be released soon.

Why Struggle To Sing? : 10 Simple Ways On How To Become A Better Musician, Hill Song Reveals

At times you find a singer in a position where they do not know what they are doing and why they are doing it in the 1st place. Now I bumped into a great article posted by one of the most celebrated gospel groups Hill song who have scooped several awards in their jurisdiction.

Here are 10 ways on how to become a better singer:

1. Welcome feedback
Those that listen to you sing or play will be listening from another perspective and may be hearing something different to what you hear. In fact, they might hear something you’re not hearing at all. They may make suggestions in order to aid the context you’re working in. It’s important to welcome feedback, both for the bigger picture and to keep you learning and gaining experience personally. Besides, it might just be an awesome idea!

2. Maintain a teachable heart
It is important to remain teachable. No one ever finishes learning in their lifetime. You can always glean something from another person, even if it’s a lesson in attitude.

3. Surround yourself with people that have more experience
There are many people I look up to – both near and far. It’s a pretty simple thought, but it’s great to have that uncontrollable laughter when you see your favourite player or singer play something awesome – you learn things, especially when you have a close friendship with them. As a toddler, I can remember sitting behind a mentor as he played during a church service and it invested in me a type of experience that cannot be bought.

4. Worship
When you worship with your gift from a genuine heart, it impacts those around you and helps you lead. You may not even realise it at the time, but when you hand over your gift to the One that gave it to you, it opens a door for people to have a greater encounter with God!

5. Practice!
Yes, that’s right, ladies and gentlemen. Not everyone loves this word with gleeful passion, but there are always ways to make practice fun. How about bringing a friend along or learning a piece of music with someone? When others aren’t accessible, I like to grab ahold of a good quality play-along album of an artist I love, throw it in the iPod and play to it. The benefit of most play-along tracks is that you have three things – the click reference, a chart to read and the feeling of playing with real musicians. In turn, this helps with timing, reading music and feel/ groove. The play-alongs can be found at most music shops.

6. Find new ways of getting excited about your instrument
As mentioned previously, there are always ways to make your discipline exciting and not just something that you do for work or service. Find new ways to keep yourself passionate about your instrument. Be creative!

7. Read & listen
When listening to your favourite music, reading it (or about it) helps you understand how it was created and how it was written.

8. Find your voice
Once you’ve seen or heard how things are written or produced, try the same or similar things, and see if you can get the same or similar results. You may even find something that you love more! This helps develop your own musical voice, because you start to pick the aesthetic characteristics in the music you listen to that suit your personality – characteristics that suit you.

9. Get first-hand experience
Start playing! Organize some jams with the people you love. It develops confidence, along with feel/groove and unity.

10. Be generous
It’s important that we always fill ourselves up, but also that we pour ourselves back out. Be generous with your gift and your service! God works generationally, not just within the small frame of your life span. Those that you give back to inherit what you learnt/experienced, allowing God to work through more and more people.
