With all the issues the country has gone through in matters soccer, the savior as he sees himself, Gor Semelang’o states that he will help the national team reach the World Cup.

The Harambee Stars have never qualified for the world cup before but have had numerous attempts to qualify only to lose at the 2nd round when put in the same group with giants of soccer in Africa. Their failure has always been directed back to the management who have been accused of not putting the right channels to help the team qualify for the world cup.

Speaking after the CHAN qualifier match between Kenya and Ethiopia,  Gor lamented that it was a pity that Kenya kept fumbling against their rivals, considering that the country has a superior economic might and pool of sporting talent in comparison to our regional rivals,  The standard reports.

I believe the national football team should be featuring at both CHAN and Africa Nations Cup tournaments,” said Gor.

Gor further challenged the incumbent to show what he (Nyamweya) has done for the national team.

Whereas Nyamweya took Stars to watch the Fifa World Cup, I will ensure that Kenya plays at the World Cup instead of just flying in to spectate,” Gor promised.

Harambee Stars Wins 2013 Cecafa Cup After 11 Years

Kenya have won the 2013 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup after a 2-0 win over Sudan in the final at the Nyayo Stadium .

Harambee Stars skipper Allan Wanga was the day’s hero, after he scored in each half to bring Kenya the regional trophy for the first time since 2002.

It came on the day Kenya celebrated 50 years of independence from British rule. It was also the first piece of silverware for coach Adel Amrouche since he took over in February.

Wanga, the AFC Leopards forward, had already scored one goal in the tournament before the final.

He started his scoring mission against Sudan in the 35th minute when he nodded in a well taken David Owino cross to give the Sudan goalkeeper Abdelrahman Ali no chance.

Sudan, and the tournament’s top scorer Ibrahim Salah, continued to torment the Kenyan defence, but to no avail. Cheered on by the home fans, Wanga made it 2-0 in the 69th minute with a good ground shot.

“I am so happy to score three goals in the tournament and lead Harambee Stars to victory” Wanga told reporters after the final.

It had taken Kenya 30 years to win the Cecafa trophy on their home soil, a point Kenya’s coach was well aware of.

“This is great and I praise the players for the job well done” said Amrouche.

Sudan Coach Mubarak Suliman said it was not easy playing the hosts in the final, which was delayed for more than two hours.

“The delay at the hotel also disorganised us,” said Suliman.

Earlier, Zambia clinched third place after their goalkeeper Joshua Titima saved three penalties to hand the Chipolopolo a 6-5 shootout win over Tanzania. The game was tied at 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Obviously thrilled, the Belgian tactician hugged the players in joy after Burundi referee Thierry Nkurunziza blew the final whistle at Nyayo National Stadium, Nairobi.

“I had told the players to give Kenyans a perfect 50th birthday; they have delivered, and against a very strong opposition. I am very happy,” he said. “This is a special team; they have played with passion for the flag.”

Clifton Miheso tapped home a rebound in the seventh minute after Tanzania keeper Ivo Mapunda failed to hold onto a 30-yard shot from Anthony Akumu.

Kenya held on for the victory that took them to the second consecutive finals. Last year, Kenya were losing finalists to Uganda in Kampala.

Harambee Stars will meet Sudan in the finals on Thursday at the same venue on the day Kenya turns 50.
