Mark Zuckeberg Responds To Claims of Bias By Facebook on The France Profile Picture

You have probably seen it on every page on facebook or probably on your friends page having changed their profile with the beautiful colors of France. This is after gun men killed 128 people in Paris living 100’s wounded and others in critical condition in a weekend that had a major rock concert and a football match between France and Germany.

The question being asked is why now ? or Why France and not Nigeria or Kenya ?

The changes have been seen as preferential by some who do not consider the life’s that have been lost or the families that are mourning after losing their loved ones.

Having spotted the comments on his temporary profile picture the Founder of Facebook shared on his page why the change was important and why they started with France.

Mark Zuckerberg wrote; “…people are also asking why we turned on Safety Check in Paris and not other parts of the world, where violence is more common and terrible things happen with distressing frequency. Thursday’s tragedy in Beirut is one recent example.”

“There has to be a first time for trying something new, even in complex and sensitive times, and for us that was Paris.

‘This activation will change our policy around Safety Check and when we activate it for other serious and tragic incidents in the future. We want this tool to be available whenever and wherever it can help.”

Probably it is important to look at the bigger picture that the world has been united through this feature ?
