Harambee Stars coach Adel Amrouche described Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Tanzania, which took the hosts to the finals of the GOtv East and Central Africa Senior Challenge Cup, as his best moment of the year.
Obviously thrilled, the Belgian tactician hugged the players in joy after Burundi referee Thierry Nkurunziza blew the final whistle at Nyayo National Stadium, Nairobi.
“I had told the players to give Kenyans a perfect 50th birthday; they have delivered, and against a very strong opposition. I am very happy,” he said. “This is a special team; they have played with passion for the flag.”
Clifton Miheso tapped home a rebound in the seventh minute after Tanzania keeper Ivo Mapunda failed to hold onto a 30-yard shot from Anthony Akumu.
Kenya held on for the victory that took them to the second consecutive finals. Last year, Kenya were losing finalists to Uganda in Kampala.
Harambee Stars will meet Sudan in the finals on Thursday at the same venue on the day Kenya turns 50.
