Gospel Worship singer Christina Shusho is a mother, a lover Of GOD and also a mentor to many gospel musicians not only in her country Tanzania but also in Kenya.
She was awarded Groove Awards Tanzania Artiste of the year 2013 on 1st June and on Sunday the 2nd, she had an interesting interview on Tukuza Tv On KTN.
As a minister of the word she could not avoid to say what she feels is being done right and wrong in the current urban gospel music.
One of the points she made out clear is that : “The Kenya Gospel Music is getting worse rather than good as Kenya gospel artistes are not singing bad songs only that its more of entertainment gospel.
The sad point is that gospel music has now gone main stream and that’s where we ask are doing the right thing such that the world also now loves us?
To quote her in Swahili she said: “Kenyans artistes are making gospel music worse rather than good as a variety of Kenyan gospel artistes are bringing more of the world entertainment music in the current gospel rather than worship.”
Further she said : ” A multiple of Kenyan Gospel artistes do not focus on saving the soul of the listener when recording the song in the studio, rather most focus on entertaining the audience on stage performance.”
Christina was bold to say her version of the gospel by saying that gospel musicians in Kenya need to look up to the Kenyan gospel icons including : Mary Atieno , Sarah K ,Emmy Kosgei, Daddy Owen and many others as their mentors.
Her friend Geraldine Odour also echoed her words in adding that : “The current dance moves are just not right. As you cannot possibly differentiate between gospel dance and secular dance in a video if you mute the volume of the video playing.”
This is something our artistes need to look out for , because if we become mainstream then we are just another industry as secular industry as Mag44 said.
Romans 1:16 :
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

I couldn't agree more.Who's mentoring artistes… to whom are people accountable? Spiritual authority? Scandals left right centre..and still business continues as usual. Something is not right. cc Daniel Kamau Kifalme Priesthood.
well said..most of our gospel songs are just meant for entertainment n not for.
I have news for you: there is a shaking coming!
Hag 2:6 For thus saith the LORD of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land;
Hag 2:7 And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts.
Hag 2:8 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts.
Hag 2:9 The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.
I just read it n this is what I think…its is partly true… I believe there is really good Gospel music in Kenya, its just that the ones that are being played most of them are the way Madam Shusho is saying. time will tell.2nd I feel its weird we talking about a dancing style in church instead of the hearts of the dancers… I mean David danced 2 SAM 6: 9-23, with all his might. no one talks of the style.. BUT CHECK VERSE 16 SOMEONE DESPISED him, I may seem against what they say but its how I truly see it coz I know of people who are doing good music. GLORY TO GOD.
hehe, good argument mate! But leaves us in much suspense. The David Dance wasnt provocative, if i may imagine. But again, the David Dance and the 'Dispisement' had more than meets the ear behind it. May be we can have an exegesis of it soon.
But I believe with you that we have some reall Gospel Music. And again if i may be liberal a bit, coz it seems many people who are against the new trend of 'Gospel Music' are very conservatives, which is good still; the Bible calls for creativity in Ministry, thats is a Minister should be interesting and not boring (am forgeting the verse, but its there in the NT)
anyway, let God do His will. He says that what matters is that the Gospel is said, there are people being touched by the 'enterainers. Gospel means Good News, and Good News is not sad or boring like some people would want us to believe.
Othole Fruityloops this is the harsh reality……..people don't want to face. Gospel Music is now an entertainment industry…..where the Spirit is its not had to tell Mike……the Holy Spirit is gentle….
Rosemary James do u sing for the lord??
Othole Fruityloops not as i should………….but i remember one day you told me that for me to sing…..i must know and understand His word…..so it will just come out through me…………but its something i have been battling with i am still afraid……i was going through a face……but i hope to get there
ok… i know u r really great cant wait to hear you… however i would like to let Madam Shusho know that not all Kenyan gospel music is entertainment. its just some esp mainstream music.
interesting, i keep hearing this about Kenya, is it the same with gospel dancehall/reggae because thats not my experience
Kenya needs prayer sir, something is totally wrong with most singers here.
I think You Misread the article..It says its "more" not all of kenyan gospel.
Edward Holland Junior , just to give a little light on that – In Africa, Many gospel artists, churches,Pastors and leaders judge Gospel Hiphop, Dancehall/ Reggae artists to be unholy basing on their style of music and appearance. They think Patios is unreal/ ungodly too !
Its about time gospel artist took a reality check
Compared to secular music its not about showbiz (money en fame)
To the kingdom prority is ministry
You need to get it thru your head
In the kingdom
Music is spiritual speaks to the heart
Its not about how its packaged
So before you open your mouth to justify genres
Ask your self what spirit are you promoting
Puting the conservation , boring or being preservative aside
Its simply about what is right and what is wrong
As an individual ad rather stick to hymns and see my father
Than be cool and loose out in my room in heaven
Allow God to open your eyes
Allow God to help you filter what goes through your ears
Guard your heart good people
does she mean ALL Kenyan gospel?
its true that the gospel industry is changing
n pasie not all kenyan gospel artist
This is serious,,I support what she’s saying about Kenyan gospel music
